I wanted to share a message I received from a friend regarding our upcoming Easter. We plan to giveaway over $1 million in prizes. Never underestimate the power of encouraging someone. "Great message this weekend. You're working a great plan for Easter to reach Corpus Christi at large. No doubt you'll catch criticism for a giveaway plan just as any other plan, but be encouraged knowing it's the approach to try for our culture. Our culture's language of interest is electronics, stuff...and given away! If free drawings for an ipad attract people into Best Buy, then we spring for one to bring people to hear God loves them. God has a better product (Jesus) and any giveaway is simply a 'loss leader' to get them in the door. Food and medicine for poor countries, electronics for rich ones. Those critical of your method just don't understand it's a means to the most worthy end. Thanks for leading as a 1st world missionary and don't let anyone bring you down on this. Continue being stoked using any means necessary. "

Lighting up the darkest places...

I was driving my car through my old neighborhood this weekend. As I began to remember the old me, I had the urge to switch my radio station from Air1 to Z95. Those of you who know Z95 know that it is a station that plays music that talks about almost nothing else but sexual content. Sad fact is that this type of music is heard by our youth and is accepted in today's culture. As I began to Thank GOD for all the wonderful changes he made in my life, a commercial that I will never forget played. The radio announcer said it was a positive message from Pastor Bill Cornelius. I had to stop my car just to give a 100% attention to it. He spoke about building a relationship off of spiritual connect rather than physical connection and how the rewards of that spiritual connection would take them into a more solid relationship. The 30 seconds it took for that commercial to play has filled my heart with hope and an unexplainable love that I have carried since that moment. Pastor Bill was shining light in a dark area to reach out to our youth. And for that, I am a changed person and I want to follow that example in my life. Thank You Jesus for your "lights" of the world.

I think I understand.

I totally agree with you. Matthew 25 has always been confusing to me since we are saved by making a decision for Jesus, but I see now that this is actually about church growth. If we want Jesus (the least of these I think) to come to our church, we need to give him what he wants. So the language of interest in Africa is giving people what they want so that they can make decisions for Jesus. This makes sense of other passages that used to be so confusing to me like 1Corinthians 1:18-2:12. The language of interest of the confused philosophers in Corinth was that of "Jesus Christ and him crucified," so the language of interest for our culture might be politics or successful living in economic hard times.

Easter Plan

Your Easter Plans are Awesome. You are doing whatever it takes to get them and I am all for it. Once you get them in door the Holy Spirit can go to work on them. Some people are going to always be HATERS of great ideas because they do not think of it. You have challenged me as a Pastor to think BIGGGG!
