Responding to Criticism

It's understandable to be upset when someone knocks the church you attend. Just remember, they are not knocking you, they are knocking me, and I'm okay with it.  Most of the people who are criticizing our Easter plans are not the kind of people we are trying to reach, so no worries.  Although it certainly is not my desire to anger people, as long as the unchurched are being reached in a God-honoring way, then just pray for God's best and stay above the fray (the negativity).  I'm so proud of our people for being so generous, in giving all the prizes and bikes that will be given away this Easter!  Free gifts draw people to malls and stores, so why not God's House?  In fact, the Ultimate Free Gift is what Easter is all about!  -Pastor Bil

I have been attending Bay

I have been attending Bay Area for about a few months now. I have to say that I really feel God when I am in there. Ever since I visited Bay Area. I find myself so excited to get back on Sunday. I live in Kingsville and wish I could attend on weekdays. I feel at home there. I read what people say about this church. And you know what? I think maybe it is because they are so shocked that someone as loving and giving as Bil can actually do this? Of course, a few people might think, why else would they do this????...... Right? I mean, he must be a gimmick. Wow .. I don't understand that. Society sees its as ok for Oprah, Ellen, and celeberties to give but why not Bil? And I think they are missing the best part of all this?? Bil did not do this alone. He had everyone's help. Just as Oprah and others did. Nothing saddens me more than critics who don't see the difference Bil is making. But it definitely makes me glow to see the amazing efforts he does to make people see that God is real and is out there. You just have to BELIEVE. annnnd ...... I believe, thanks to Pastor Bil. -R

Criticism Who?

The smiles on the faces of the people were huge, everyone was so excited about all of the services, and were so pumped up and ready to go. I am not just talking about the visitors; I am talking about the people who serve. Every person who severs in production, parking, greeting, hospitality, and/or the children’s ministries were so excited that we were going to have a huge crowd, lots of people to serve. We all knew it was going to be challenging, but everyone was willing to accept that challenge. We who serve were excited and all of the criticism that was being portrayed did not affect any of us. Everyone for the most part showed up, and we served not only our church and our community, but we served for our Lord as well. Attending to the needs of 23,000 plus people required a huge support staff, church and volunteer staff alike and I feel we all did an outstanding job. The message was great, all of the people who attended were great, the pastor was great, the staff was great, and the volunteers were great, and gave away some great stuff, but most of all the people who came to our church and accepted Jesus Christ were the best of all. That is why we have a great church and no matter the criticism that came our way we still got the message out to 23,000 plus people. My wife and I are very proud to say we are a BAF members, partners, servers, and volunteers. We have a great church, with great people, who have a great place to worship our way. This way might not be the way for everyone, but it is our way, and it is a good way. We as a church may not please everyone, but as long as we are pleasing to God, then what any one else thinks really does not matter. BAF reaches out to those who would not feel comfortable in any other church setting or who are just burnt out on religion in general. That is how and why I became a member over 4 years ago and will continue to do so regardless if we are in a “Mega Church” or an old school building. BAF is church that started out with next to nothing and now has over 7000 members. Great success comes with great criticism, but those who criticize do not realize our church is comprised of people who are all too familiar with ridicule and criticism and this is why we attend at BAF. We weren’t really welcomed anywhere else and no one really attempted to reach out to us. When those who serve talk to other people who serve you find out that we are at a church who accepts us as we are, where we are, and who does not judge us for what we were, but give us a place and a chance to be more like who we want to become. We are not perfect and that is okay with BAF, no one beats us in the head over with what we have done wrong, or even tries to make us feel guilty for our past discretions, but teaches us and encourages us on how to do better, live better, and on how to be better, all while serving our Lord, our fellow man, and our world. Thank you to all who attended the Easter services, we who serve appreciate each and every one of you and it was a pleasure to make your visit to our church a pleasant one. We hope to see you in church again real soon.

Cristicism who?

AMEN David!!!

Easter Sunday

I visited your church for the first time this Easter Sunday. Not because of a free car. I have cars and t.v's and my kids have bikes. I went because it was Easter Sunday and my children needed to understand that Easter isn't about eggs or baskets with candy. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. My kids really enjoy the train rides.

I am a 19 year old college

I am a 19 year old college student who is proud to say that I inspired someone to attend chruch this Easter weekend. But wait, it gets better...Last week in class I was defending the chruch and it's Easter giveaway to a few people who had never attended Bayarea, and who were degrading the church and its purpose for giving so much this Easter. During my "defense" a boy began asking me more questions about the church, saying that he had never attended this church and frankly, hadn't been to church in some time. He was hesitant but I told him that if he went he wouldn't regret it. Well this Sunday I saw him at church! Not only that, but he was a winner of a flat screen tv!! Not only that, but I got his number from a friend so I could text him congratulations and he said he was amazed by the worship and message and wants to go next sunday. :) Now he will be sitting next to me in church to hear the word of God every sunday. It feels good to know that I was a part of helping Bay Area's true purpose this Easter. I love this church!

My husband and I have been

My husband and I have been attending BAF for about 3 years; we are not members, but consider this "our" church. It's the only church that my husband will go to and feel comfortable in. Pastor, you are an amazing man from God and I continue to pray for you, your family and of course, the church. I pray that all of those negative comments will turn into something positive for each and everyone making them. We cannot please all of the people, all of the time, therefore.....we must pray that God's will is in every decision that is made. I attended Easter Service at 10:00 and saw God's power moving in the church, especially amongst the youth. It gave me a lump in my throat seeing and feeling God's presence there. I want to Thank You for all you and the staff do to make it so welcoming each time my husband and I walk through those doors. I continue to pray that The Word, spoken through you, will bring more people to Christ!!!! Amen!!!!

Giveaway

My first impulse was a little hesitant. It seems a little worldly to give stuff away to draw people to church. I think the church has become so worldly that it is easy to draw a negative conclusion about a giveaway. But after some thought and Bible study, I conclude that as long as the church's motive is right with God, then who am I to judge? That's not my job, after all, so PTL for a church that can make a huge impact on Corpus Christi. Go for it Brother Bil. Although I am not a member of your church, I'll see you later tonight.

Easter

How did you enjoy the church? I go there all the time and I love it. I hope you enjoyed it and will come back again!

Consumerism or Evangelism

Look, I have heard a lot of criticism about churches using a giveaway to get people to come hear the life changing message of truth. My home church just did a evangelism crusade this week and gave away a free car and a free x-box too. All I have to say is that Jesus said it is more "blessed to give than to receive." Why is it a problem for some people that a church is giving a million dollars in free stuff! I thought giving was a good thing. It is biblical to be a giving person and a giving church. If a church can use a give away to draw a crowd and it gives them an opportunity to teach truth and let God work then I think it is fantastic. Praise God for allowing BAF to have the resources to be able to do that. As long as you guys don't compromise the message (and I am sure you won't) then I say way to go BAF!!!! Go get em! We're praying for ya!

If even 1.....

...Person is saved this weekend, Its worth all the critisism! My prayer is that a few of the critics come in, just to have some thing to talk about, and they leave with Jesus in their hearts! Keep on Keepin on Pastor Bil!

Bravo!

Amen to all the wonderful stories of salvation that will come from this weekend's service! It was an amazing message and well worth the heat!

Ultimate Giveaway

My thought when I heard about this giveaway was exactly that. If even one person is saved it was worth all the effort and generosity. I know that a lot of love went in to this series. It had to, this type of thing takes a lot of generosity from the sponsors and a whole lot of really hard work on the part of the team. I am new to your church not because of stuff being given away but out of need for a home church and curiosity about the message behind this. I think it's a wonderful, innovative approach to giving and spreading God's word (both of which the bible asks us to do).

While many were quick to

While many were quick to criticize, you had to be there among the crowd to realize sincerely the main reason for the giveaway was met. People were there that had not been in church for months, years! Most knew they would not walk away with a car or big ticket prize. My niece, my daughter, a friend...who in reality knew they would not leave church ... See Morein a BMW, but they left with a message and made them realize "I need to return to church, to God"..My niece left with hope that next weekend (not this giveaway weekend) her children will go with her. THIS was the main reason for the giveaway!!!

Easter Give-A-Way

Bil, I know you love Jesus. You are doing something to get, hello, non Christians into church so they hear the message. Critics might just 1.)Be mad because they really want a car are can't go because they are having to attend their own church, or 2.)They don't get it that you love Christ and want the lost to come on what would be a normal sleep in Sunday morning. Bil, have a great weekend, you are the ring leader of Corpus. I am just glad you are leading them to Christ.

We become truly personal by

We become truly personal by loving God and by loving other humans...In its deepest sense, love is the life, the energy, of the Creator in us. Joyce Meyer We need to have a mindset of letting God use us to make somebody else’s life better. When we do that, then there's a joy released in us that we’re not ever going to get anywhere else.. Armin Gesswein When God is about to do something great, He starts with a difficulty. When He is about to do something truly magnificent, He starts with an impossibility... John 15:12-13 (Revised Standard Version) This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends... William Sloane Coffin I love the recklessness of faith. First you leap, and then you grow wings. -Charles Colson Knowing that we are fulfilling God's purpose is the only thing that really gives rest to the restless human heart. Steven Curtis Chapman Caring for orphans in the same way God cares for us is a privilege; it is an invitation to join God right at the center of His heart as the Father to the fatherless. Max Lucado The reason God wants his glory to be big is because that’s what the world according to the Bible means--a God who has a lifeboat big enough to save us.

We know what our purpose is, even if they don't..

Pastor Bil, Again I echo the others in saying how proud we are of you for having the courage to do something so large and powerful that it upsets the others..probably because they did not think of it first. We WILL win souls for Jesus with whatever it takes! Know that our members are excited to be part of this and trust that God is 100% behind BAF. Your vision for Corpus is beautiful and we will win this city for Christ. I imagine many of the naysayers will probably change their mind after this weekend when the headlines read "TWO thousand lives saved from Hell at BAF this weekend!!" You have all our love and support behind you!!

It does

It does not take a perfect church to introduce a man to the perfect Christ.

Easter

I recently started attending BAF this past summer. Hearing all the negative criticism is upsetting to hear. Honestly reading some of the post began to confuse me. But then, after praying I realized….wait! I began to recall in the past, driving around town this church had some of the congregation out doing the church yard and they had some garage sale items with a big sign that said “Free”…so as people stopped, they would give you a pamphlet and invite you to Sunday service. Then another time on the south side a youth group was giving out “Free Car Wash”…and for the same reason to draw you in and give you some pamphlets and minister to you as you waited on your car. A church on staples had a Easter hunt where they gave prizes years ago, my daughter was 6 months then (she‘s 16 now) we went….and guess what? It drew us in and we began to attend that church. A lot of churches have done what BAF is doing but just a little different.

When I first heard of Pastor

When I first heard of Pastor Bil's idea, I was in complete awe. My first thought was how it was going to get pulled off but then I remembered "For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:37 This is such an amazing act to reach out to the unchurched and those who don't know Jesus. Although the criticisms do hurt, I know the number of God's Kingdom will grow in size (and for all the better)! There are those saying this isn't what Easter is about but I think they just don't understand that Jesus sacrificed for us to be with Him in Heaven just like church members/businesses sacrificed for the unchurched to be with Him as well. To those that say we need to donate to charities instead of buying so many material possessions just to give away...it's hard to find anywhere on the media where you hear of a good deed. It's hard to hear about anybody being the hands and feet. You hear none of that. The media rarely showcases the good going on in the church, community, and people. They focus mostly on what has gone wrong. Remember, as a Christian, we may lose friends (and the people around us) because of our beliefs. But it's the sacrifice we make to be with Him! I hope everybody has a blessed Easter and don't forget to reach out to those around us and the unchurched that will be sitting around us!

Easter Sunday Giveaway

I think God has already blessed you in more ways than we can count. Whatever it takes to get people to come to His house, then He will do the rest. I remember a deacon at my own church saying one time, "You can't get folks saved by hanging around saved folks all the time." What started as a small project has exploded. When God's in it for the right reason, His will will be done. God bless all of you.

Yes we all like free gifts,

Yes we all like free gifts, but we need to remember where they come from in the first place!

I pray God's uses you for

I pray God's uses you for His glory and in a mighty way. You're never going to make everyone happy and fortunately as a pastor that is not your task. My biggest concerned is that we stop listening to criticism altogether. Discernment is a gift to the body of Christ and when many mature Christians see an issue and oppose it I think we need to question it as well. Is there a Biblical reason for this opposition? Blessings!

There is amazing wisdom in

There is amazing wisdom in this! Take it to the Lord and say "what of this do I need to give ear to?" and let the rest wash away. Thank you for posting!

Lead on my friend, lead on...

Leaders know that not everyone will agree with their decisions… that comes with the territory. Great leaders however understand that it requires courage to hold steadfast to those beliefs which are criticized. Staying true to your morals, beliefs, and principals can never be wrong when honoring God and giving God the glory. Remember… for the many who criticize you, there are thousands who support you. Lead on Bil!!!!

I have to say that I am

I have to say that I am proud and excited to be part of BAF. It feels good to be part of a church that isn't afraid to support the vision that God has birthed in Pastor Bil. Its awesome to know that we are not only a creative church but a dangerous one as well. I have seen growth that only comes through obedience and having faith that God is in complete control. I feel that people who can't or choose not to be obedient without hesitating get offended when there is a church that can and will. I think it makes them question their committment to reach out to people. We(christians) are all here for the same purpose, to reach lost people. As my Campus Pastor says, you need to do whatever you can to reach them as long as its not unbiblical, illegal or unethical. To all the critics: What are you doing to reach out? God is coming back, there's no time to be comparing churches. Let focus all of this energy to spreading the Gospel. We are the true army of one; one God, one love, one purpose.

blessed

Thank you for writing this, i'm guessing a lot of other people are feeling the way my husband and I feel right now. We love Bay Area and we support it with our time, prayers, and money. That must be why all the negativity hurts us too. We love our preacher and all that he is and does for God. We feel so blessed to be a part of something that is so much bigger then us. While we try to reach people for God everyday, in everything we do, we realize that this weekend we are part of something that is way bigger then what we could do on our own. Thank you for encouraging us and reminding us that these aren't personal attacks. But please know Pastor Bill, we are all in this together:) We love and support you...and the rest of Bay Area Fellowship. We will all stand strong together and keep fighting for this city to be saved, by whatever means we have to use. May God bless and keep blessing you all!!!

awesome!!

Keep up the good work!!

Don't get discouraged

Keep your head held high. I (and countless others) are extremely proud of you and the other leaders and members of BAF. You guys are doing an amazing job of ushering in the Kingdom of God here in south Texas. Thank you for giving us an example of what a generous church looks like. We have been blessed now it's time to be a blessing!!!
